Service Ministries
We are called to serve the needs of others in response to God’s grace and love. St. Mark’s supports the following outreach ministries, among others:
- Lutheran family services, Lutheran Services for the Aging, Campus ministry, Outdoor Ministries, the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, and Lenoir Rhyne College.
- Through Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran World Hunger, ABCCM, and CROP Walk, the congregation assists many of the world’s needy with quilts, clothing, food, and funds. Here are the websites for the Crop Walk and ABCCM.
- Working with other Lutheran churches in Buncombe County, a Lutheran Habitat house was completed in the Fall of 2002. We are currently gathering money for another Habitat House to be built in the Fall of 2004.
- The Western Carolina Rescue Mission is a ministry for homeless men, women, and families. Along with ABCCM, it is supported by the congregation through a giving tree at Christmas. Paper ornaments are placed on the tree near the beginning of Advent and the members of the congregation take them off, buy the gift written on the back, and bring it back before Christmas so that they may be delivered.
